El estadounidense de 41 años, invicto, con cinco títulos mundiales en cinco categorías de peso, considerado como uno de los mejores de la historia, derrotó al irlandés Conor McGregor, luchador de Artes Marciales Mixtas, en su último combate en agosto de 2017. Esa victoria adornó su historial y le permitió incrementar su cantidad de peleas ganadas a 50, con cero derrotas.
"Quiero dar a la gente lo que ellos quieren: sangre, sudor y lágrimas", lanzó el campeón durante una conferencia de prensa en la capital nipona, a la que habría llegado, según los medios japoneses, a bordo de su jet privado.

Nasukawa, es, según el comunicado de prensa que anuncia el evento, "probablemente la mayor esperanza de los deportes de combates que Japón haya visto nunca", con un récord de 27-0.
Aceptar la pelea contra Mayweather fue una "decisión fácil", afirmó el joven de 20 años. "Poco me importan las reglas del juego. Soy el hombre que va a cambiar el curso de la historia. Lo haré con estos puños, de un solo golpe, ya lo verán".
