El tenista Federico Delbonis, que logró la Copa Davis con Argentina en 2016, anunció este lunes que dejará la actividad profesional con un emotivo posteo en las redes sociales, en el cual remarcó que esto "cierra una etapa de su vida con momentos inolvidables".
"Se cierra una etapa en mi vida la cual me formó como deportista y persona principalmente. Viví momentos inolvidables e inigualables dentro y fuera de la cancha de tenis, pero es momento de escuchar a mi cuerpo que me pide una tregua", expresó en su cuenta oficial de Instagram.
"Tengo que agradecerle, sin lugar a dudas, a todas las personas que me apoyaron y confiaron en mi durante todos estos años", añadió.

Por último, destacó que "fueron muchas experiencias y emociones vividas a lo largo de todos estos años", pero que "hoy se termina un viaje de los más enriquecedores de mi vida", aunque destacó que "van a venir más rutas para recorrer".
Durante su carrera, el logro más destacado sin dudas fue la Copa Davis 2016 que conquistó junto al equipo nacional. Argentina venía de una espera de 93 años para ganar "La Ensaladera" y con la serie ante Croacia 2-2, Delbonis podía ser el héroe, ya que le tocaba definir.
La historia marca que finalmente pudo colgarse el cartel de héroe, ya que derrotó a Ivo Karlovic (6-3, 6-4 y 6-2) y se convirtió en un ídolo nacional.
"Se me caen las lágrimas cada vez que veo cómo ganamos la Davis. Me sigo emocionando cuando me veo en el punto final", confesó tiempo después.
Además, el nacido en Azul ganó dos títulos ATP (Sao Paulo 2014 y Marrakech 2016 -ambos 250s sobre polvo de ladrillo-), logró ser número 33 del mundo (2016) y supo vencer tanto a Roger Federer como a Andy Murray, entre otros Top 5.
Su despedida será jugando el IEB + Argentina Open 2024, certamen al que fue invitado por la organización, y jugará en dobles, junto a su compatriota Facundo Bagnis.
El torneo se desarrollará en el Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, entre el 10 y el 18 de febrero, sobre canchas de polvo de ladrillo.
