El operativo de la búsqueda submarina del avión que trasladaba a Emiliano Sala y el piloto David Ibbotson encontró un fuselaje en las profundidades del Canal de la Mancha, por lo que se aguarda una confirmación oficial para saber si se trata del vehículo que estaban rastreando.

Según medios ingleses (entre ellos la BBC), el avión hallado es el Piper Malibu del atacante argentino desaparecido el 21 de enero, en el viaje desde Nantes a Cardiff.

Durante la jornada de hoy, dos barcos (el Geo Ocean III y el Morven) comenzaron el operativo de rastreo submaerino. En un determinado momento, uno de los dos emprendió la vuelta a Guernsey a una velocidad que no era normal y sin un motivo preacordado, por lo que se especuló con que podía haber tenido noticias sobre el objetivo.

David Mearns, jefe del operativo, confirmó la noticia a través de Sky News y su cuenta de Twitter: "Los restos del avión que trasladaba a Emiliano Sala y que era piloteado por David Ibbotson fue localizado temprano por la mañana por el FPV Morven. Como fuera acordado con la AAIB, movilizaron al Geo Ocean III sobre la posición determinada para identificar visualmente al avión mediante ROV; las familias de Emiliano Sala y David Ibbotson fueron notificadas por la policía. La AAIB realizará una declaración mañana. Esta noche, nuestros pensamientos están con las familias y amigos de Emiliano y David".
